Editing a scripted drama is almost a completely different challenge to cutting a documentary film.
Where the medium of docs allows you to improvise in many ways and find creative storytelling solutions beyond the frame, a scripted film allows you some of these tools, but typically though harvesting only the best of the source material itself and deciphering multiple takes of (often similar) repeated action and performance to create a seamless sense verisimilitude, which is very difficult, but crucial in order to create an emotionally invested experience for the audience.
I love working in this genre because it allows me to wear a different hat, while bringing alternative problem-solving skills from my documentary background.
I’ve been fortunate enough to work with many talented writers and directors and the films I’ve edited have won multiple awards and played in festivals across the world.
